Saturday 12th August - Relief of Derry Celebrations - Londonderry
On our last Order parade of our marching season, we participated in the annual Relief of Derry celebrations in Londonderry.
Our day started off at Clounagh Orange Hall, where we led Clounagh Campsie Club Apprentice Boys of Derry, where
we then paraded to Carleton Street Orange Hall to meet with the other Portadown ABoD Clubs. The other clubs were led
by two other bands; Pride of the Birches Accordion, Portadown and Cantrills Glory Accordion, Liverpool, who led the
district procession through the town. A brief rememberance and wreath-laying service took place at the town's cenotaph, whilst
Cantrills Glory struck up Abide With Me.
For the main parade in Londonderry, we paraded with 3 colour party, 7 drums, 2 bass drummers and 14 flutes. An overall total of
26 members. Despite the early morning start and 2 hour bus journey, we started off the 5 mile route playing well.
Over the day, our best played tune was Birdie Rap.
With well over 100 bands on parade, the talent was endless. From the melody bands on show, Newtownards Melody and
Millar Memorial were probably the two of the best on parade. Pride of the Shore and Dunamoney were both in fine tune,
with Dunamoney marching with well over 30 flutes. Closer to home, Drumderg Loyalists, Kilcluney Volunteers and
Ballytyrone Accordion were all playing well. A carnival-styled atmosphere was also used in places, as seen by the
images below!
