Friday 28th July - Bessbrook True Blues - Bessbrook
On a warm and damp night, we travelled to the model village of Bessbrook in support of the True Blues. This was our first
competition parade in 6 weeks and our first parade since the Royal Black Preceptory parade in Scarva, 2 weeks ago.
Crowds were sparse around the centre of the village, with many spectators preferring to view the parade from the comfort
of their car. A total of 37 bands attended this parade, with a variation of musical styles on parade. It was nice to see
that several Nationalists weren't bothered by the parade, as they walked past bands sporting their local GAA team's colours.
Our band played very well considering our two week break. We paraded with 3 colour party, 1 drum major, 6 drums, 1 bass drummer and 18 flutes.
An overall total of 29 members. Our best played tune on the night was Eaton Boat Song. Both our drum and
flute corp were sounding impressive, especially for having a reduced number of 6 drums.
Several bands showed off their new uniforms they acquired over the Twelfth period. The best band on the night was East
Belfast Protestant Boys as they picked up most of the senior awards. Downshire Guiding Start and Donaghadee Fusiliers
were both playing well.
