Saturday 6th May 2006 - Craigavon Protestant Boys - Lurgan
Our second visit to Lurgan in 8 days, was in support of Craigavon Protestant Boys, as they held their 40th Anniversary parade.
This parade was well supported by both bands and the general public, with large crowds gathering in the middle of the town.
Again, as per usual, the Parades Commission had placed restrictions. At the police barricade, approximately a dozen nationalists
had gathered to watch the passing bands.
We had paraded with 4 colour party, 1 drum major, 9 drums, 2 bass drummers and 15 flutes. We were a little patchy starting off,
but en route towards the town centre we were back on brilliant form. And that form continued right to the end, with us
collecting a 1st place in Best Small Blood and Thunder band. We had also been awarded 3rd Bass Drum, which was deservedly
awarded as both bass drummers were playing well.
Without a doubt, one of the best bands on the night was Donaghadee Fusiliers. The noise projected from this band was
extraordinary and if this band was to play in an alley-way, your ears might get slightly damaged. South Down DUP
were also sounding well, with a lower turnout of 16 flutes. Their counterparts, newly formed Upper Bann DUP are now
established in the scene, and look to be improving each parade.
If you have any pictures or videos of our band at this parade, please get in contact.
