Friday 8th September - Downshire Guiding Star - Banbridge
This parade was well supported with 65 bands parading the streets of Banbridge, for the annual band parade of Downshire Guiding
Star. For the first year in many, the weather was kind to the host band, which was welcomed by the large crowds
who gathered throughout the length of the County Down town. This parade also celebrated the host bands 25th anniversary.
We paraded with a large band, with 32 members on parade; consisting of 3 colour parry, 1 drum major, 8 drums, 2 bass
drummers and 19 flutes. It look several tunes for the band to get back to our best, after playing Red Army and Eaton
Boat Song. We also tried our two newest tunes of Londonderry / Armagh Brigade and Crossmaglen along
the back road, which sounded brilliant.
With 65 bands on parade, the talent was endless. The Small Blood and Thunder trophy was deservedly won by Ulster
Grenadiers, who's colour party and flute core were immense. Pride of the Frontier and Skeogh were playing
well, while Whitewell Defenders Flute Band impressed the crowds with their unique female drum major. Downshire Guiding Star
paraded with an 'Auld Boys' band, consisting of well over 50 members.
