Friday 16th June - Drumderg Loyalists - Keady

On the border, Drumderg Loyalists were holding their annual band parade in Keady, which we had supported. Due to the high population of nationalists in the South Armagh town and the ruling of the Parades Commission, all bands are restricted to parade from one Orange Hall to another, along a narrow country road. However, this did not stop bands travelling from all corners of Ulster, as 50 bands were on parade, the furthest band travelling from Coleraine. Drumderg Loyalists also released their latest CD on the night, titled 'At the Border's Edge'.

With several other activities taking place back in our hometown, we were to be parading with a small band, as were several other bands on the night. We paraded with 4 colour party, 1 drum major, 5 drums, 1 bass drummer and 11 flutes. An overall total of 22 members. We didn't perform at our best throughout the parade, until our last tune of Eaton Boat Song, outside Drumderg Orange Hall, where a moderate crowd of bands members and spectators had gathered.

One of the best bands on parade was Donaghadee Fusiliers, who collected 4 1st place trophies in the awards. From the small bands, Crossgar Young Defenders were playing well, with a small drum corp and a powerful bass drum.
