Friday 15th September - South Down DUP - Rathfriland With only a few parades left in the 2006 season, we travelled to the hills of County Down in support of South Down DUP's parade in Rathfriland. This parade was well supported with 67 bands travelling from all six counties in support. Large crowds, including the Reverend Ian Paisley, had gathered in the town's square to watch the procession take place. We completed the parade with 1 colour party, 1 drum major, 6 drums, 1 bass drummer, 2 marshalls and 15 flutes. An overall total of 26 members. We had played to a satisfactory standard throughout the parade, but sounded our best finishing off in the square with Eaton Boat Song, as the flutes played it perfectly. The best of the bunch on the night were undoubtedly Pride of the Ballinran, Drumderg Loyalists and Pride of the Hill as they were all mentioned in the Best Overall Band category respectively. Pride of the Hill were on excellent form, as they had amalgamated on the night, with their Auld Boys band. Both Skeogh and Castlederg Young Loyalists were both playing well finishing off. Ballytyrone Accordion impressed the crowd by finishing off doing the snake, with their small band.
