Saturday 27th May - County Armagh / Down Junior LOL - Bangor
Our first loyal order parade of the year was leading Corcrain Juniors LOL 120 to the annual County Armagh / Down parade in
Bangor. Starting off early in the morning, we left Corcrain Orange Hall en route to Carleton Street Orange Hall to meet
with three other bands and lodges, to allow the Portadown district to parade the town. This district parade was led by Upper
Bann DUP, who were formed late last year. Wearing their new uniforms for the first time, this really brought the band out
and improved their appearance. The last band on parade was Portadown True Blues who had lead Parkmount Juniors LOL 150. A
reasonable crowd had gathered in the town centre to watch this early morning parade.
After arriving in Bangor, and thankfully still dry, all other districts and bands were waiting for the parade to commence.
Unfortunately the weather took a slight turn for the worst on the first leg of the town. The weather ended up dry and sunny
which was a gift for all the young marchers on parade.
Slightly more than a dozen bands were on parade, with the variation stretching from accordion, melody flute and blood
and thunder. It was good to see Knocknanin Accordion, travelling from County Monaghan on parade. Through the 'blow-off'
section of the parade, we came up against several bands including Drumderg Loyalists, South Down DUP and Rising Sons
of the Valley Kilkeel, who all played well going past us. Top melody band Ballymacarret Defenders, who also lead the parade through the County Down town
were also on top form.
Playing with a low band, but slightly more than the night before, we paraded with 3 colour party, 1 drum major, 6 drums,
1 bass drummer and 13 flutes; an overall total of 24 members. Throughout the day, several tunes were played several times,
but the best on the day was Marching On. For 13 flutes, a lot of noise had been produced, especially with the named tuned.
After parading Bangor, it was back on the bus for Portadown where we would complete the parade. Marching through the town,
a moderate crowd had gathered in the centre, although not as large as what there was in the morning time. We finished the
parade by playing our National Anthem at Carleton Street Orange Hall. Although this was the end of this parade, it
wasn't the end of the night as we were on parade in Lurgan afterwards.
