We travelled to Lisburn city centre, in support of Pride of Knockmore Flute Band, where large crowds had gathered along the route.
On arrival, bands were already geared up and set to parade the city. This year Pride of Knockmore had attempted to
slightly change the route, which had unforunately been unsuccessful for the host band.
Large delays and stoppages meant that each band slowly completed the route.
Like ourselves, a lot of bands marched with small numbers; quite possibly due to the fact that the North West 200 fell
on the same weekend. We had paraded with 4 colour party, 6 drums, 1 bass drummer and 13 flutes; and overall turnout of
24 members. Our lowest turnout of the year so far. This affected us in the short blow-off section where we
had to face bands with more than twenty flutes.
We had gained a 3rd place Small Blood and Thunder spot, below Ballyhalbert (2nd) and Lambeg Orange and Blue (1st).
Bands of all calibre were on parade on the night, with East Belfast Protestant Boys, wearing their white trousers,
were one of the best Blood and Thunder bands on parade. Coming in to the tight pedestrianised city centre, they played
a rendition of The Sash to perfection.
Pride of the Hill Carnmoney finished with the tune of George Best, or better known as You Raise Me Up.
This emotional tune was welcomed by the crowd, and shows the impact the football legend had on the people of Northern Ireland,
especially within the loyalist bands scene.
