On a warm summers evening, we travelled to the hill town of Rathfriland in support of Pride of the Hill, where a total of 45
bands were on parade. The parade was well under way on our arrival with bands parading through the crowded square.
Quite possibly the warmest parade Rathfriland has seen for years, more so welcomed by the spectators, but not those
parading up the long and tiring hill.
We paraded with a moderate band; that of 3 colour party, 1 drum major, 7 drums, 2 bass drummers and 16 flutes. An
overall total of 29 members. Our performance has improved for the first time in a few parades, which gives everyone
that needed boost. The bass drum was in fine tune as well, as it was producing a 'great big thud'. In a way, it was
good to see a judge a long the back road, which means that bands don't have the chance to relax and continue with
strict march and discipline. After conquering the hill, we finished off in the square by excellently playing Eaton Boat Song.
From the small bands, Castlederg Young Loyalists were playing superbly with their rendition of Go Man Go, supplemented by a
strong bass drum. Larne outfit Cairncastle, were also playing well, on parade in front of us.
From the big bands, South Down DUP played well finishing off with We're Coming - their drum corp making a lot of noise.
