Friday 11th August - Queensway FB - Dunmurry Tonight we paraded in support of Queensway Flute Band, in our second visit to the village of Dunmurry. The parade was well under way on arrival, with large crowds gathering at the cross roads, to see bands come from several directions. A total of 32 bands supported the Derriaghy band on the warm summers night, the exact same number as the band had received the year previous. Possibly one of the hardest nights to hold a band parade, as many of those bands on parade have an early start in the morning, for the Relief of Derry parade, held by the Apprentice Boys of Derry, in Londonderry. We paraded the village with 2 colour party, 1 drum major, 7 drums, 1 bass drummer and 12 flutes. An overall total of 23 members, noticeably lower than previous weeks. With a shortened route than last year, this was preferred by many of the band members. Ourselves were playing to a satisfactory standard. Other bands were playing better than satisfactory on the night, with Shore Road band, Fife and Drums coming out the Best Overall band. Both Ulster Grenadiers and Kilcluney Volunteers were playing well, with the Volunteers finishing off with their rendition of Absent Friends and some powerful bass drumming.
