On our final visit of the year to the city of Newry, we supported South Down Defenders Flute Band. A total of 44 bands
attended this parade, with a further 2 colour parties representing other bands on parade. Heavy restrictions were yet again
placed on this parade, due to the high percentage of Nationalists living in the area. The parade is prevented from entering
the city centre, and instead, is restricted to more or less, one stretch of road. This does not affect the standard of
bands on parade, and neither did the light rain showers that fell on the night.
We had a much bigger band out than our last parade in Loughgall, with a total of 29 members on parade, consisting of
2 colour party, 1 drum major, 8 drums, 1 bass drummer, and 17 flutes. Marching wise we weren't at our best, but this
was not the case for our musical display. We had finished off the parade outside the Orange Hall playing Marching On,
which was played well.
As previously mentioned, an excellent standard of bands were on parade. As expected, Mourne Young Defenders came out the
best band on the night, collecting a total of 5 first place awards. This band is truly a credit to the Ulster band scene
and with the determination and discipline this band has, it is no wonder they are one of Ulster's finest bands.
Lambeg Orange and Blue were another band on top form on the night. They could give some of the bigger bands a challenge,
with their bass drum alone.
