Saturday 17 March - Cormeen Rising Sons of William - Kilylea, Co Armagh

And so another season is upon us. Our 2007 season kicked off with a parade held by Cormeen Rising Sons of William, in Killylea. Unfortunately, it wasn't an ideal night for a band parade with the blustery winds and fine rain, which of course, was no fault of the hosts. The parade was well supported, with bands travelling from counties Fermangh, Tyrone and Antrim, with the majority travelling the short distance from south Armagh.
Through months of preparation, Cormeen had planned to make the event as family orientated as possible, and tried just that by ending the parade with a fireworks display.

A lot of our own members were impressed with the first outdoor performance of the year. Any band member will know that during the winter break a bands' par will drop, due to the lack of outdoor practise. Maybe the cold weather kept us on our toes, so to speak. We paraded with 3 colour party, 1 drum major, 9 drums, 1 bass drummer and 15 flutes - an overall total of 29. Surprisingly we were at our best at the start of the night and again picking up our performance coming down the Killyea hill.

A wide selection of bands were on parade, including flute, silver and accordion. With the season not officialy kicked off yet, a lot of bands were parading in non-uniform, due to a lot of bands purchasing a new uniform this year, inluding most of the top Blood and Thunder bands.

The biggest band on parade, was Drumderg Loyalists, with 14 drums and 32 flutes, closely followed by Armagh True Blues and Kilcluney Volunteers. The Volunteers were probably one of the best bands on display, with their ever-improving crisp and loud drum corp.
Omagh True Blues were impressive also with their big numbers, as too was local bands Bessbrook True Blues and Pride of the Frontier, Drumhillery.
