Our second and final return to Dromore was for the annual parade of Kinallen Flute Band, in which 40 bands attended. As per usual, a large crowd and a
great atmosphere was felt around the square, where all the bands finish the parade.
We paraded with 2 colour party, 1 drum major, 7 drums, 1 bass drummer and 14 flutes; an overall total of 25 members.
This was also the first parade we used our new bass drum, which was purchased several weeks before hand. We have opted to go for one of the smaller drums, a
14-inch, to be precise. It is sounding much better than our previous drum, and will, of course, take several weeks for it to come to full strength. As most
of the parade route is around the 'back-streets' so it was decided we try out several new tunes including some marches for our church parade next Sunday and Build My Gallows.
A lot of anticipation was held for the first look at Drumderg Loyalists new uniform, in which they have went for the opposite to their last uniform - red tunics
and navy trousers, topped by white peak hats. The uniform has sure to give the band a boost and it was no exception that they were playing to a high standard.
Another band playing to a high standard and definitely a class above the rest, was Mourne Young Defenders, who deservedly picked up the Best Overall prize. From the
Small Blood and Thunder bands, Ulster Grenadiers were playing well with a small band, and were rewarded with a 2nd spot in the relevant category.
