Saturday 20th January 2007 - Omagh True Blues Indoor Concert - Bentley Niteclub, Knockloughrim
After having a four month winter break, our 2007 season kicked off with an indoor concert in the Bentley Niteclub, in support of Omagh True Blues, who
were well supported on the night, by both bands and supporters. Four bands were scheduled to play at the event - Cloughfern Young Conquerors (Belfast),
Ballycraigy Sons of Ulster (Antrim), Pride of the Frontier (Keady) and ourselves; but only three of the listed bands arrived with Cloughfern unable to
attend due to unforseen circumstances. Omagh True Blues have come along way in their 4 year history, with this year looking to be a big year for the
County Tyrone outfit.
'The Bentley' is a brilliant night for any indoor concert and this was evident last night as the club was bouncing.
As we had hoped, we were the first band to take to the floor. We marched on with 9 drums, 1 bass drummer and 15 flutes, which is a massive turnout for
an indoor event and also a great morale booster for the members. We started off with one of our newest tunes 'Londonderry which was welcomed by
the on-looking crowd. Our set consisted of a mix of new and traditional tunes like the 'Sash and 'Dolly's Brae'.
Whilst we were playing, unfortunately one of the heads on the bass drum burst, meaning that we could not continue playing. We would like to thank Ballycraigy
Sons of Ulster for the lend of their bass drum, which admittedly boosted the noise of our band.
After a short break, the next band to play was Ballycraigy, smartly wearing shirts and jeans. They marched on to the floor with 7 drums and 14 flutes and
definitely seemed to be in the party mood. Through their set, they pleased the crowd more and more after each tune, especially with their drum corp marching
around in circles on the dance floor.
The third and final band was Pride of the Frontier, Drumhillery, who had 7 drums and 15 flutes, were dressed in their full uniform. This band has massively
improved over the last year. After their brilliant performances at the end of the 2006 season, their performance at the start of the 2007 season was
no different. The best part of their set was the use of a soft-top drum, which has been specifically used for indoor use.
Congratulations to Omagh True Blues on holding such a successful night and thanks to them for inviting us to be apart of the function.
