Friday 9 February 2007 - Portadown Defenders FB / Corcrain LOL 339 Indoor Concert - Carleton Street Orange Hall, Portadown
After months of preparation, the band teamed up with local lodge Corcrain Purple Rockets LOL 339, to hold our first indoor concert of the year.
This event was well supported by members of the public, which of course, was brilliant for all involved.
For the first of two events planned by the band, two bands from across Ulster kindly supported our event - they were Omagh True Blues Flute Band and
Ballylesson Old Boys Flute Band.
Ballylesson Old Boys, were the first band who marched onto the floor; shortly after 10pm. Playing with 4 drums and 13 flutes, they impressed many of the spectators, especially by the large
amount of youth in their ranks, with approximately two thirds of the band being under eighteen. That could mean a positive future for the County Antrim
band, as there is the potential for one of the younger members to carry the band on for years to come.
They were not only impressive with their 'young-blooded' members, the band's playing ability was on top form, as they played a selection of marches and
traditional melody tunes, like Kilaloe.
The second and final band on the night was Omagh True Blues, who were a nice contrast to the previous band, with their Blood and Thunder style. They
marched on to the floor with a massive 9 drums and 15 flutes. In their 4 year history, this band has significantly improved over the last number of years.
Their recent membership boost and new tunes, seem to have raised the bands' momentum, giving each member more satisfaction.
The band played for approximately twenty minutes and well supported by the cheering spectators.
The night finished off with a disco, as provided by Loyalist FM, as well as a game of 'pitch and toss' and a raffle.
