Celebrating their 125th anniversary, Skeogh Flute Band held their annual band parade in the small town of Dromore. Indeed, 125 is only an estimate,
as this the earliest date recorded of the bands name. That is, a brilliant achievement and not something that is heard on a regular basis.
As expected, a large crowd had packed into the Square, where bands can be seen twice at some points.
We paraded with 1 colour party, 1 drum major, 6 six drums, 1 bass drummer and 16 flutes; overall total of 25 members. As Craigavon Protestant Boys were
unable to attend the parade, four of their members walked with our colour party, bearing the flags of the 9th Royal Irish Fusiliers, 14th
Royal Irish Rifles, 36th Ulster Division and the Kings Colours. For the second week running,
the band was in fine form, playing tunes like 'Crossmaglen' and 'Londonderry'. Surprisingly, the band was mentioned highly in the results, winning
3rd Overall, 1st Small Blood and Thunder, and 3rd Drum Major
A fine selection of the top bands were on display including Brunswick Accordion, Kilcuney Volunteers and Drumderg Loyalists. The melody scene was
well represented with bands like Pride of Ballinran, Ballylesson Old Boys, Lisburn Young Defenders and Mourne Young Defenders take part. And indeed, Mourne
were one of the best bands on the night, with their strict marching and discipline and their ability to perform.
