Friday 27 April - Star of the North, Dollingstown - Lurgan
The first thing you would have noticed at this parade, was the surge of spectators. Over the past few years, both spectators and the number of supporting
bands has declined - but with the rise in the number of people watching and with over 30 bands supporting this parade, things are starting to look up
again for the Lurgan bands.
As per usual, the nationalists had gathered at the north-west side of the town, in protest for the parade, which is only allowed past the front
of the war memorial.
After our poor performances the week previous, we set out on a high, by starting off playing Eaton Boat Song. The parade route consists of a lot
passing bands and unfortunately for us we met some of the big bands, namely Kicluney Volunteers and Armagh True Blues - who were both playing well. On
parade we had 4 colour party, 8 drums, 1 bass drummer and 16 flutes - an overall total of 29 members. We managed to maintain our performance throughout
the parade, which earned us a 1st Small Blood and Thunder trophy.
The ever impressive Mourne Young Defenders were on parade - who sounded brilliant playing Build My Gallows in their unique style. Pride of Knockmore were
on top form, as was Defenders of the Rock, even though they paraded with a small band.
