Monday 17 March - Cormeen Rising Sons of William - Killylea

AND so another season is quickly upon us. We kicked off the season by making a short trip to the village of Killylea in support of Cormeen Rising Sons of William FB. Although it stayed dry, temperatures plummeted to below zero. The parade appeared to be well supported with bands travelling from various locations across the province.

On the night a lot of bands chose to wear non-uniform. For most, including ourselves, they are waiting on new uniforms or letting a few learners parade. On arrival, the parade was in full flow with various types of bands on parade. Bands that looked to be getting off to a good start to the season were South Fermanagh Loyalist who had a good solid drum core with loud supporting bass. Montober FB looked well with a good size for the Cookstown band and Clogher Protestant boys looked to have got off to a good start with a solid performance from the flute core.

Our own members were eager to parade after a the long, albeit shorter than normal winter break. We walked with 1 colour party, 2 drum majors, 10 drums, 1 bass drummer and 15 flutes - an overall total of 29. We made a great start to the season ahead, especially as we headed down the main road playing our new tune 'The Ulster Tower'.
The tune was played relatively well, although there is still room for improvement. As expected the performance picked up as we came into the village playing Dolly's Brea and Red Army. All in all it was a good start to the season and our members are all looking to continue with good performances for the rest of the year.
