Saturday 12th April - Rising Sons of the Valley - Kilkeel

With the season well and truly in swing, it was off to the seaside town, were a large crowd gathered to watch 30 bands take part in the parade held by Rising Sons of the Valley. Downshire were one of the first on parade, who were also playing well with a good size of band out, considering they have been rebuilding over the winter.

One band who turned the heads of many was Castlederg Young Loyalists, who walked with 3 drums and 5 flute and good contesters for best band on the night. Full credit is due as many bands would not do a parade with these numbers.
Pride of Ballinran were sounding well parading in their home town, playing a good selection of melody marches. Their drum core seemed to be down in numbers from last year yet they were sounding very solid.
The largest band on the night was Pride of the Hill, Rathfriland. All sections of the band were loud and crisp. Last on parade was the Ulster Grenadiers from Carrickfergus, who appear to have gained a surge of members over the winter months, by walking with 12 drums.

As for ourselves, we paraded with 3 colour party, 2 drum majors, 10 drums, 1 bass, and 17 flutes; in total 33 member. This was a great boast and a good start to the season and hopefully we can maintain this high attendance. We got off to a shakey start but we improved the whole way around the route with the performance excellent in the seond half of the parade.
